Rooted and Rising: Cultivating an Anti-racist Identity as Korea-born Counselor Educator
August 25, 2025 (Mon), 1 pm Pacific Time (Los Angeles)
Presenter: June Hyun, PhD
Description
We invite you to join us for the first webinar in a new series designed to support Korea-born counselor educators in cultivating and sustaining an anti-racist identity in U.S. higher education. This opening session, Rooted and Rising, will provide an honest, reflective, and culturally responsive space for international and immigrant, especially Korean, counselor educators to explore the complexities of race, identity, and power in their professional roles.
Led by Dr. Hyun, a Korea-born counselor educator with over 16 years of experience teaching and mentoring in the U.S., this webinar will center on the article “Being an Anti-Racist Clinician” (Williams et al., 2022; required pre-reading; provided to attendees upon registration). Through guided reflection, small group discussion, and collective dialogue, participants will be invited to examine how their cultural backgrounds, migration journeys, and lived experiences inform their anti-racist values and practices.
This event is open to all, though it is specifically designed for Korean foreign-born doctoral students and counselor educators seeking community, affirmation, and tools for change. It also marks the beginning of a broader initiative—a webinar series focused on integrating anti-racism into counselor education, including teaching, research, supervision, and leadership.
